Use One of Our Well-Equipped Boats for Your Spring Bear Hunt

If you drew a black bear tag on Kuiu, Kupreanof, or Prince of Wales Island we’d like to wish you congratulations. All three islands — especially the more remote Kuiu and Kupreanof — are renowned for dense bear populations and exceptional numbers of trophy-quality animals.

Planning this hunt is half the fun! These are generally boat-based hunts that involve slowly cruising the shoreline to spot bears, then going ashore for the stalk. During the spring season, our 22-foot Hewescraft boats are available for self-guided and and self-transported hunts.

Located at the far northern end of Prince of Wales Island in picturesque Port Protection, we’re just 6 miles from Kuiu Island. To put it simply, no land-based outfit outfit can put you in closer proximity to Kuiu, Kupreanof or Prince of Wales’ remote shorelines in a more capable boat than we can.

Unmatched Access

From our docks in Wagon Wheel Cove at the northern end of Prince of Wales Island, it’s just 6 miles across Sumner Strait to Kuiu Island. Kupreanof is even closer. If you’re hunting Prince of Wales you can use one of our boats or we can put you in a vehicle to hunt the road system. We are as far north as you can get on Prince of Wales so hunters often get opportunities on the road system before vehicles from other parts of the island can get here.
