Explore and Fish Some of the World's Most Productive Waters

Captain your own boat in our very navigation-friendly waters. Leave and return on your own schedule and fish how you want to, where you want to, using our safe, carefully maintained, and well equipped boats.

Self-guided trips are extremely popular and book up fast. This really is an incredible way to explore our waters, and having the to freedom to do it on your own brings guests back year after year.

Self-guided packages also offer an exceptional amount of time on the water — 7 days of fishing and 7 nights lodging — plus the added benefit that self-guided anglers have a bag limit of two halibut per person of any size.

Self-Guided Boats and Gear

For 2024, we have two 22-foot Hewescraft Sea Runners. Both are powered by reliable Yamaha main engines with 9.9 hp Yamaha kickers with electric start and power trim/tilt.

Both boats are rigged and outfitted specifically for our Port Protection fishery, with Garmin XSV touchscreen chartplotter/sonar displays and Garmin radar to help you navigate safely to and from the grounds and find the bait and gamefish once you get there, as well as best-of-the-best Australian-made Lonestar Marine electric anchor winches. For safety, boats are equipped with VHF radios, all USCG-required safety gear plus 406 mHz EBIRBs.

For fishing, our self-guided boats are come equipped with the same high-end tackle, rigging, and gear that our charter boat utilizes, including Accurate reels and Star Paraflex rods for your bottom fishing, Shimano Tekota 600LC's paired with Lamiglas Kenai Quik rods for your salmon fishing and mooching, and Penn downriggers.

A landing net, harpoon, cooler, and everything else you need for an enjoyable, trouble-free, and efficient fishing adventure are also included. The only thing not included is fuel.

According to Alaskan self guided regulations, you may retain larger halibut than on a guided charter boat. Current regulations allow for the retention of two halibut per person of any size.
